NEW Thermometer Review & $140 Nursery Pack Giveaway

I have this past week or so had the pleasure of trying out a brand new Forehead Thermometer from the trusted family brand Vicks. This product is designed to give clinically accurate temperature readings, just by swiping it across the forehead!

We have been giving the new Forehead Thermometer plenty of trials in our house. There are so many great features I have made a comprehensive list of the things I liked while using this product:

  1. The first thing you notice is how easy it is to hold, with a nice big viewing screen. The thermometer felt perfect in my hand but my husband felt it was a bit small for his, although still easy to use (having said that it is usually Mum that would be using the thermometer isn't it).
  2. There is printed instructions on the handle so if you do need a quick refresher on how to use it, its right there you don't have to muck around finding the box or leaflet.
  3. Until you use the Vicks Forehead Thermometer, you don't realise just how unique and well thought out the colour coded (traffic light) screen is. Do you remember the cut-offs for normal/high/dangerously high temperature readings? I certainly don't, especially in the middle of the night when I get woken by a sick child. Well this product takes that pressure off straight away, all you need to do is look at the colour of the screen (green = normal, yellow = mild fever, red = high temperature) and you know immediately your child's temperature status.
  4. So non-invasive, you don't need to disturb a sick or sleeping child to get their temperature by sticking things in their ears or mouth.
  5. Easy to use if you have a difficult or special needs child.
  6. As a Mum of 2 I know how easy it is to get flustered and upset when your child is sick, so to have a thermometer on hand that is so easy to use without having to think is certainly peace of mind.
  7. I love how safe it is to use, even for absolute newborn babies.
  8. No extra fiddly bits to have to attach/detach, lose or have to buy to use the product.
  9. The Vicks Forehead Thermometer even has a 'Memory Tracker' which records the last 12 readings - so you can easily tell whether your child's temperature is going up or down.
A thermometer is an absolute essential to have in the First Aid kit when you have children - and as you can see the new Vicks Forehead Thermometer has an amazing number of safe and easy to use features that are designed to make your life as a parent easier. If you haven't already got a digital thermometer, I can assure you that you will just love this one!

You can find the Vicks Forehead Thermometers at pharmacies.

And here is the great news for you - Vicks and FGB Natural Products have very kindly offered a prize pack to be offered here at the Your Cheeky Monkey Blog - one of their Vicks Nursery Packs (pictured below) valued at $140!! In this pack is a Vicks Forehead Thermometer and a Grobag Egg.

A new heirloom wrap, tote bag & other news!

First to mention is that I took all my sewing machines in for a service yesterday - I will be able to pick them up Wednesday or Thursday this week, so there may be a delay of a day or so on a few items in-store that I make to order.

A few new items in-store this week that I have been busy making - below is one of my Heirloom Wrap and Burp Cloths Sets - this one in a gorgeous traditional teddy bear set with the lacy white crochet edge. These make the most special gift for a new baby or a baby shower, the wraps make a divine receiving blanket for a new baby.

Also a new jeans tote just listed: This one crafted from Cue jeans as the front panel (these are a most gorgeous purple/aubergine toned) with remainder of outer in a blue marco-suede, and fully lined in a funky purple and blue flower print cotton. My recycled jeans totes are always quite popular so if you fancy this one grab it as there is only one left.

You can also now buy our hand-knitted Finger Puppets as a Finger Puppet Gift Box ~ Great value, you get 10 Finger Puppets (RRP$40) for $30 gift boxed and with a lollypop. Fabulous gift idea for a child of just about any age. And fantastic as a "big brother or sister gift" when you have a new baby, or for when travelling or sick.

Recently I have noticed a lot of very nasty computer virus's making the rounds. These sure cause an awful lots of problems for people, especially if you are running an online business. Annette Piper wrote about her recent experience with a Trojan virus - very scary! So just a quick reminder to everyone to keep your virus software up to date, and be very careful about any links you click in emails or from Twitter or Facebook Direct Messages. Even if you think its from someone you can trust, my advice is to not click on any links unless you are expecting a particular message! You just can't be too careful these days.

Winners Galore!

I am happy to announce that the winners of my promotions in January have been drawn and contacted. Renee C was the very happy winner of the buyster lighting Blog Giveaway (she chose the $75 voucher), and Patricia J was drawn as the winner of the Your Cheeky Monkey Giveaway where all purchases went into the draw to win the Magnetic Song Kit from Kids Learning is Fun. I hope you both enjoy your prizes.

In the past few weeks I have been over the moon to win some fabulous prizes myself.

Here is my son in a gorgeous Cackleberry Kids hat I won through Hip Little One. I have to tell you, he just loves his new hat and wears it everywhere!

I also won through the Beautiful You Blog an absolutely gorgeous pack of handmade soaps from AromaBeauty... they arrived beautifully presented and smelling divine. I am currently using the Sunshine Exfoliating Bar, it is fantastic to use and I have even noticed my husband is using it everyday!

And finally a couple of weeks ago at the Connect 2 Mums Friday Night Live Chat I won some beautiful organic wool (can't wait to use this to make something special) and a deliciously soft cloth nappy and matching breastpads from Michelle of Sustainable Hemp Products!

I am just so impressed with the quality and presentation of all these products.. Thank you all so much!

Midwife Wisdom, Mother Love

"Midwife Wisdom, Mother Love" by Sarah James is now available in-store at Your Cheeky Monkey for only $24.95.
An authoritative, candid and often fun account of childbirth - from pregnancy through to labour (and what to expect afterwards), which unlocks the mystery surrounding birth and provides answers for the most concerned parent-to-be.
Midwife Wisdom, Mother Love is a very easy to read, logical and informative yet friendly and intensely personal guide to pregnancy and delivery from an experienced midwife and mother of four. Sarah James offers oodles of common sense, practical tips and useful insights in a simple, down-to-earth style. She doesn’t hold back from sharing the honest truth about her own four pregnancies and deliveries — not just the highs, but also the lows. This balanced approach is at once comforting and credible.
After her first delivery, she whispers to her partner, ‘He’s so beautiful, we’ll have to have another one,’ but then takes a year to get over the disappointment and ‘emotional mess’ of not having had the ‘natural birth’ she had expected. After her second blissfully ‘orgasmic’ birth, she says, ‘You know we will have to have another one. That was too fantastic not to do again.’ After her third, when she says, ‘I don’t want to have anymore. I don’t ever want to do that again,’ my heart went out to her. I thought, ‘This woman tells the truth.’ Despite her husband’s vasectomy, eighteen months later she realises she is pregnant again.
Midwife Wisdom, Mother Love is approx. 200 pages jam packed with information for all Mums and Mums-to-be. And written by an Australian for Australian Mums!
Don't forget too Your Cheeky Monkey is the place to shop for all your newborn and new mum essentials!
