NEW Thermometer Review & $140 Nursery Pack Giveaway

I have this past week or so had the pleasure of trying out a brand new Forehead Thermometer from the trusted family brand Vicks. This product is designed to give clinically accurate temperature readings, just by swiping it across the forehead!

We have been giving the new Forehead Thermometer plenty of trials in our house. There are so many great features I have made a comprehensive list of the things I liked while using this product:

  1. The first thing you notice is how easy it is to hold, with a nice big viewing screen. The thermometer felt perfect in my hand but my husband felt it was a bit small for his, although still easy to use (having said that it is usually Mum that would be using the thermometer isn't it).
  2. There is printed instructions on the handle so if you do need a quick refresher on how to use it, its right there you don't have to muck around finding the box or leaflet.
  3. Until you use the Vicks Forehead Thermometer, you don't realise just how unique and well thought out the colour coded (traffic light) screen is. Do you remember the cut-offs for normal/high/dangerously high temperature readings? I certainly don't, especially in the middle of the night when I get woken by a sick child. Well this product takes that pressure off straight away, all you need to do is look at the colour of the screen (green = normal, yellow = mild fever, red = high temperature) and you know immediately your child's temperature status.
  4. So non-invasive, you don't need to disturb a sick or sleeping child to get their temperature by sticking things in their ears or mouth.
  5. Easy to use if you have a difficult or special needs child.
  6. As a Mum of 2 I know how easy it is to get flustered and upset when your child is sick, so to have a thermometer on hand that is so easy to use without having to think is certainly peace of mind.
  7. I love how safe it is to use, even for absolute newborn babies.
  8. No extra fiddly bits to have to attach/detach, lose or have to buy to use the product.
  9. The Vicks Forehead Thermometer even has a 'Memory Tracker' which records the last 12 readings - so you can easily tell whether your child's temperature is going up or down.
A thermometer is an absolute essential to have in the First Aid kit when you have children - and as you can see the new Vicks Forehead Thermometer has an amazing number of safe and easy to use features that are designed to make your life as a parent easier. If you haven't already got a digital thermometer, I can assure you that you will just love this one!

You can find the Vicks Forehead Thermometers at pharmacies.

And here is the great news for you - Vicks and FGB Natural Products have very kindly offered a prize pack to be offered here at the Your Cheeky Monkey Blog - one of their Vicks Nursery Packs (pictured below) valued at $140!! In this pack is a Vicks Forehead Thermometer and a Grobag Egg.

My children are 15,14,10 & 17 months old. I think I should win as only just recently my little one got very sick & we didn't & still don't own a thermometer. It was only after feeling she was hot that we took her to the hospital & found her to have a temp of 39.9. At least with this in the house we would be able to monitor fever alot closer & not leave it so late to seek help.

I have 4 amazing daughters, Almost 9, Just turned 4, An 18mth old and a 10 wks old princess. I am a stay at home mum, because i need to provide constant care to 2 of my 4 angels. My eldest has Autism and my 18mth old has Seizures of unknown origin. Having a child that has never been able to communicate when she is sick or unwell makes it difficult to know when to seek medical attention. Something as non-invasive as this thermometer would make a considerable difference in our house. Thank you for making us aware that such a great product exists.

I am a mum to 9 year old daughter, 4 year old son and 7 month old daughter.
I live in a remote WA town with my husband.
We travel over an hour to get to a Dr when we need one and spend a lot of time on the internet when our children are unwell, sourcing information about things.
To win this item would be a fantastic help for us, as it would definately be such a peace of mind in those times, when baby is fussy at night or the other children are unwell.

My child is 18 and he's retarded and has problems with his health which most times he can't tell us when he's feeling sick. Usually the first warning sign is that he vomits, and this prize would be a kind of an early warning system that he's feeling sick and out of sorts.

I would also love to win this prize. My son is nine months old, and an absolute delight. As a new mum I am still getting the hang of everything, and tend to react strongly when I am worried about him. Being able to monitor his temp without waking him all of the time, as well as know at a glance whether to give him some medicine or take him to the hospital would really help me sleep at night (and my husband as well!).

HI there!
i would love to win this because i have a nearly 20 month old child and trying to conceive another one and it would be very handy to have to know what temperature my son has got when he is sick to know what action to take! Also the grobag thermometer would be really good with winter coming up as then we can keep his room at a good temperature with the ducted heating and not make him too warm or cold

We have a 2.7 year old and a 6 mth old in our house. The 2.7yo was a great sleeper but the 6 mth old is a rotten sleeper and we are constantly wondering whether he is too hot/cold, does he have a fever, is his room too cool, just so that we can work out why he isn't sleeping! Would be great to have the Grobag Egg tell us about his environment and the thermometer to tell us about him a bit better. Might help us feel more reassured!
Love YCM of course too!

I would love to win this for a few reasons...

I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant with baby number 3, I have two young daughters who are 2 and 4 and a husband who likes to guess the kids temps when they are unwell because he can't be bothered to wait for the thermometer we have to tell him the temp...

With a new baby arriving VERY soon and two young ones and also the fact that I'm having a C/S this would be very useful with the arrival of Winter and the wonderful melbourne flu season also on there way....

I don't like sitting on my kids (to keep them still) when I have to take their temp so this will be just perfect and I'll be able to take their temps in record time (and limit hubby from guessing and saying "Oh they must be sick they have a temp") The Vicks Forehead Thermometer will do the job and show him with colours and a bright LCD the right diagnosis!

I have a 5 year old & 2 year old. This product would be perfect for us as everyone knows how difficult it is to keep a toddler still- let alone try to put a thermometer under their tongue or armpit & worse still try to keep it there. The older one has autism, ADHD & sensory issues so he doesn't like the feel of anything on him. Practically impossible to take his temperature so having a quick & recordable data thermometer will be very handy in our household. froggypants@live.com.au

I have 2 boys, one is 5 and one is 6 months. (will be 7 months when you draw this). I would love this as I am afraid I am a constant worrier... these 2 products would take a little stress away. Thank you for the chance!

My daughter is 15 months and would love one as she squirms every time I try and take her temperature in her ears, mouth and underarms!

I have two boys, 3yo and 8m old. My 3yo gets sick quite easily and taking his temp can be a nightmare! As is taking the temp of an 8 month old. My 3yo has Sensory Integration Dysfunction and hates the feel of things touching him, so most often I skip the temp taking stage (very naughty I know, but much better than the screaming match of taking a temp) Hopefully this winter will be better than the last few though!

Thanks

Hello my children are ages 7 months, 9 yo, and twin 15 yo and I have all girls. I would love to win this because my 7 month old has sickle cell disease and I think this would be an accurate way to take her temp if she has a crisis

wow what a great giveaway :) Something that every mum should have!

Well my name is Mel! I have 3 boys. Jaidan (6), Chase (4) and Ashton (17 months). I also have another little bubba boy due in Winter in 13 weeks!!

I would love to win, the Grobag Egg would be a GREAT thing to have in this coming Winter with a new bub and 4 boys sharing a room!

Everyone needs a thermometer right? Well Ashton thought ours (ear one) made an AWESOME toilet toy (along with the portable house phone, half the toys in the toyroom, and recently mummies money... yeah try fishing little coins out the bottom of the toilet, 26.5 weeks pregnant, withOUT throwing up)... so we don't have one anymore!

Due to the cost of replacing it, it is on my list (along with 50 thousand OTHER things) but probably wont happen anytime soon!

Thanks :D

Hi my name is Meg and I am a mummy to an 8 month old boy with the hope of having many more babies in the future :) At the moment we are using a thermometer that you just hold under the arm. I can't believe how hard it is to hold there just for a minute or so with a wriggly crying baby. It's almost impossible. This forehead one looks like a dream come true. Also I have heard a lot about these Grobag Eggs - I really want one!! How handy would that be especially in winter. Wow what a fantastic prize! My email is meggles5(at)hotmail.com :)

I am a first time mum with a brand new three month old girl. I found this link due to the GCNH. Being a stay- at-home-mum I have learnt how isolating life can be ( read my blog at http://www.togetherparenting.blogspot.com). I have also learnt the joys of fluffy mail!

My children are 17,15 and 13. But I would love to win this for my neighbour across the road - expecting her first baby in June. Sure to get lots of pressies before and after the baby is born, but I doubt this is something anyone would buy for her. Definitely a 'must' for a first time mum.

My family: boy/girl twins (18 months) and new baby due on my twins 2nd birthday! (I might just end up with three kids under two!)

Although I do have a thermometer it is not doing its job very well. With my son suffering from reoccuring bouts of tonsillits his temperature is usually the first sign something is wrong (and he is too small to talk so I need to get the signals right!). I would love a good thermometer that doesn't take ages to come up with a result you just know is not correct!

Also with a new baby the Gro Egg would come in handy a lot as I know the area were we live does get cold at night and it will be a geat for peace of mind knowing our baby is not too cold, or too hot.

I have an 18 month old son, I would love to win this prize because at the moment we have a thermometer which you have to wait a minute to get the temp - this is nearly impossible to do with my son who doesn't sit still! It would also be handy for when we have another child! :)

would love to win this, i have a 10 week old boy who currently has his first cough. i don't have anything to measure his temp. it would be handy to have in the future.

2 little girls so far for me, Jaydey cakes is 2 1/2 and Miki moo is 10 months next week plus another one due in August (dont know if its a boy or girl yet) so 3 under 3!

This looks great! We had a basic cheapy thermometer and the batteries went flat straight away! Looks so much easier to use than the traditional mouth ones plus would be so easy for nighttime testing in the dark.

hello, what an awesome competition, and the product sounds amazing... Im Kierra, a sahmummy to Ella (3 on tuesday 16th march) and wyatt (16mths old) and ttc though difficult as im breastfeeding nd not sure im ovulating yet hehe...
To be honest i have never had a thermometre before, i just have never been able to afford one that is easy to use with wriggly little children.
My boy tends to get temps alot so it would be awesome to have something quick and easy to use to get his temp.. very handy for any household, esp those with little children.

Hi there, my name is Rachel and I am a recent YCM follower, having just received my first purchase on Friday (very exciting!) My children are 19, 13, 6 and I am pregnant with a son, due in a month or so. Since there is such a disparity in the ages of my children we had pretty much thrown everything baby-related away...I have been diligently working through my list of "must-haves" but have yet to purchase a room or forehead thermometer, partially because I have been unsure of the best one to buy. My new son has been diagnosed in-utero with "Crossed Renal Ectopia" and we are not sure what to expect once he is born, but we have been told he will be prone to hypertension and infections. The Vicks Forehead Thermometer will provide us (especially Dad) with an easy-to-use method for keeping an eye on our little guy's temperature daily, as we will need to do. By the way, we are still hunting around for a name and looking for suggestions!
