4 L'il Darlins and Noteable Designs

A few weeks ago I was the extra lucky recipient of 2 prizes on one day!! Wow!

The first one was a competition to name a new product at 4 L'il Darlins - and my entry of "Bows for Toes" won!! The picture below is the beautiful little girls crocs with bows I won, and Chris even included some of the gorgeous hair clips she makes. As I have boys this is all going to my niece for Christmas, and I think she will LOVE them!

I have to tell you, the workmanship of these products is just beautiful... and I'm going to let you in on a little secret, Your Cheeky Monkey is going to be stocking in the next couple of weeks an EXCLUSIVE range of 4 L'il Darlin products I love them so much! Keep your eyes peeled for the stocking!

I was also super lucky to win at one of the Connect 2 Mums Friday night chats a brilliant prize from Noteable Designs... A set of ID Me cards for my sons.

Now, Maree at Noteable Designs makes a huge range of practical products, and the ID Me cards have to be one of the best. If you have a toddler, or a child with special needs, you HAVE to check out her store. She designs everything to your exact specifications and they are brilliant.

I LOVE these ID Me cards - and the boys love them too, so its no hassle to get them wearing them when we go out. In fact, its hard to get them off them again when we get home!

Referrals and an excellent photographer

Another lovely customer has mentioned me on their blog! A big thank you to my old friend Kim who passed my name on when one of her other friends saw her gorgeous little girl Tia with one of my butterfly TagNCuddles.

This is what Catherine has said on her blog - "A girlfriend had one for her little babe and River was magnetized to fiddle. So we had to get one." Now in my business that is absolutely the best referral you can get, it starts to make all the hard work worthwhile.

So, now I have had a look at Catherine's blog and it turns out she is a pretty impressive photographer in the Brisbane and the Gold Coast area running a business called Celebrations Studio. I really like Catherine's blog because it is a nice mix of her work and her family, including some amazing pictures of her little son at swimming lessons.

So if you are looking for a photographer in the SE Qld area why not have a look at her blog and get a feel for her work - I'm impressed for one!

Poem

Ten tiny little fingers that always want to play,
that never stop exploring the wonder of today.
Ten tiny little fingers that from the very start,
will reach out for tomorrow yet always hold your heart.

The Toy Bug Review

THE TOY BUG REVIEW – JIGSAW & SELF INKING STAMP

Much to the pleasure of my two sons, I have been honored to review a couple of products from “THE TOY BUG”.

First up is the Elephant Family Jigsaw. This is a gorgeous 3 part wooden jigsaw presented in a wooden tray with Perspex lid. This little jigsaw, even though fairly simple, held the attention of my 3 and 4 year old sons for quite an impressive time. One of them even pointed out to me (which I didn’t even realise) that one of the pieces was actually a baby elephant. The great thing about this puzzle is that it would be a lovely gift for a 1-2 year old, but it would also make a fantastic stocking stuffer for Christmas for up to around the 4 year old mark.

The things I liked about this puzzle (apart from the above) were that it is well made and very sturdy, it is made from wood and not plastic, and it is colourful and beautifully presented. The only thing I would recommend about this toy is that if giving to a younger child, remove the Perspex lid first as the corners are fairly sharp.

I also received the Cat Self Inking Stamp. Well, where do I begin with this little stamp? To start with, one of the best ways to get feedback on a toy is to actually give it to a child to use. Sometimes even with expensive toys kids will practically take one look at it and chuck it in the corner never to be played with again. This stamp starts by being fascinating to children by being made in a cat shape, and then stamping out a cute little cat picture. For some reason this has just engrossed my 2 sons!

Once again, this is a gorgeously made wooden toy that looks like it will last really well. As a Mum I love that there is no messy ink-pad to have to put up with, you just take the lid off and stamp away. Even though it looks to me like it should be stamped to death by now, there seems to be heaps of ink still in it. Which is great value! There would be nothing more disappointing than having the ink run out after only a couple of days use. I can’t wait to visit The Toy Bug to purchase more of the self-inking stamp range!

You can find these products that I have reviewed, along with a HUGE range of other educational and fun toys at www.thetoybug.com.au

The Fregie Sack

I have somehow missed blogging about the fabulous Fregie Sacks that I stock at Your Cheeky Monkey.

Fregie Sacks are re-usable mesh bags that you use in place of the plastic bags for fruit and vegies when shopping. Plus they have another million and one uses! I even use them for my Gift Packs!

Fregies are:
  • Reusable again and again (3 years+)
  • Low cost
  • Australian owned and made
  • See through so makes life easy at the checkout
  • Amazing array of uses around the house, for travel, for baby, etc
  • Lightweight in every way so they barely add to product prices, and durable
  • Biodegradable cotton drawstring stops your produce escaping
  • Australians use more than 6.9 billion plastic bags a year, most of which end up in landfill...imagine how many less you'd use with a set of Fregie Sacks.

So please consider our children's future and our beautiful earth, and stop using those horrid plastic bags for fruit and veg shopping. Use Fregies instead!!

And you can read an article by myself entitled "Conscientious Shopping" {HERE}

Happy Shopping!

Exciting News

Well a couple of pieces of news to share with you - first is that I am so excited to tell you I have leased a small space in Handmade Heaven, which is located in Brisbane Street, Ipswich.

Handmade Heaven is owned and run by the lovely Liesa - it has been an absolute pleasure dealing with Liesa, she is so helpful with any queries and from viewing the store in person now, is doing a brilliant job of running her shop and encouraging all sorts of crafty people to get their wares out there.

In the photo above is myself with Liesa as well as her Mum Miriam of Bubba Chenille. I really enjoyed getting the chance to meet Miriam as well, as we have corresponded in the past and its just lovely to meet the person behind the product. I first came across Bubba Chenille quite a few years ago after purchasing a couple of small products at one of the markets (don't ask me which one hehe the memory is not that good!).

I also couldn't resist a couple of purchases while at Handmade Heaven - one of Bubba Chenille's new bathmats and a tub of very yummy handmade Fruit Jellies. If you live not too far from Ipswich, I highly recommend visiting there if you need any sort of gift - whether its a new baby, for a man, Christmas, Mothers Day - you name it, you will find a perfect gift there.

I also had my little Tote Bags featured this week on Handmade Kids "Fabulous Friday Finds" - woohoo! You will find my girls totes HERE!

Another great c2m networking event!

On Tuesday I had the greatest fun attending another networking event in conjunction with Connect 2 Mums.

This one was beautifully hosted by the amazing Michelle Hayward (author of "Falling"). Thanks Michelle for an amazing event!

Attending the event was (just to mention a few) Linda Enever of Cre8ted By Linda and Enever Consulting, Gayle of Mummy's Wish, Nicole Grant of Nicole Grant Occupational Therapy, and Jodie Maher of Kids Learning Is Fun.

It is such a fantastic opportunity to meet other business women and discuss work and family issues.

Michelle also put on the most gorgeous morning tea - lucky us!

I can't wait now for the Connect 2 Mums Seminar on the Gold Coast next month - it is going to be a huge event!

As always, the prizes given away at the networking events reflect how generous all the women of Connect 2 Mums are, and I was so lucky to win this prize from Cre8ted By Linda - its a GORGEOUS necklace and earrings made by the super talented Linda. WOW!! I couldn't believe my luck!

I was also given these beautiful door hangers from Michelle Hayward - Michelle is just setting up her Childbirth Education Classes and she chose the name I nominated!! But shhhh its a secret for now - you will have to keep your eyes peeled in the near future for the big announcement!

These are from Lolipop Kids Wall Art, and are just so beautifully made. Lolipop Kids Wall Art specializes in Customized Handpainted Wall Art - so if you are looking for special wall art for your child, Lolipop is the place to go!

Finally I wanted to mention this was the prize I gave away at this networking event - one of my very popular Kids Bath Packs, which contains one of my fun kids face-cloths with a crochet edge, soap, rubber ducky, all presented in a fabulous re-usable Fregie Sack!

Fabric Giveaway!

Visit Idey Spidey Blog to have a chance at winning some gorgeous fabric! (Hang on.... no don't I want to win!!)

Product Review - Strawberry Jam Floor Cushions

I have recently had the pleasure of reviewing one of the most versatile and practical children’s products I have ever come across.

The Strawberry Jam DesignsFamily Floor Cushion” (www.sjdesigns.com.au) is basically 4 large cushions in one. There is Velcro on each side for super easy removal of the cushions for washing – this is actually one of the coolest features of this product, as a busy Mum I hate fiddling around with silly zips or clasps and then trying to force the innards out of a too small hole (with the result that it is nearly always impossible to get the innards back inside of things!).

My 3 year old just adores the Strawberry Jam Family Floor Cushion, it is so comfy for him to lie on and watch television or to read or do drawing. And he just carries it from room to room to be where he wants!

This product is just so impressively portable - the 4 sections just simply fold over each other to make one large compact cushion that doesn’t weigh a ton. Whether it’s around the house, or to take traveling, the Floor Cushion is ideal for newborns right through to big kids.

Available in the most gorgeous funky fabrics, there would be one to suit any child’s personality. The one I received is blue, green and white stripes – just perfect for our household, boyish but not babyish so I know my sons will not grow out of it.

I wish I had come across this product years ago when my children were babies, the Family Floor Cushion is just fantastic right from newborn babies where it is an ultra comfortable and safe place to lay baby! Then the uses are endless as your child grows – a place to lounge or sleep or read or watch television, you can fold it in half or fold twice to use as a backrest or higher cushion to site on, and the best part is if you have 2 you can even use them to sleep on for adults!! My son was sick this week and the Strawberry Jam Floor Cushion was indispensable because it was so comfortable for him to lie on where ever I was in the house, it literally became a portable bed for him.

You can find these brilliant products in heaps of gorgeous fabric designs at www.sjdesigns.com.au - and I can guarantee that your Family Floor Cushion will become a vital part of your families living!

I am honored to be conducting this review as part of the “Product Review Team” at CONNECT 2 MUMS – visit www.connect2mums.com.au to find out more!
