New Issue of Cherry Out Now!

I just saw on one of my favorite blogs THE TALL POPPY that the new issue of Cherry Magazine is out.

Cherry is a FREE online lifestyle mag for women. It covers such topics as health, fitness, recipe, spirituality, beauty and shopping but it offers real content. Cherry Mag is still a lighthearted read but it isn't superficial.

Soap Socks and Orchids

I wanted to start this post with a picture of my orchid!

I have for many years been a (not very good) orchid grower.

This is the only plant that I have that flowers every year, even though I can't remember the last time I watered or fertilized!!

So there we have it, a beautiful picture for you!

Up next for mention is a great new product I have just listed in store.

What are these funny looking things you might ask?

Well, they are SOAP SOCKS - basically little bags crocheted from 8ply cotton to use in the shower or bath. Great for the whole family - in fact my young sons just love the one I have been trialling myself.

They really are a face cloth / scrubber / soap saver all-in-one!

Normal size soaps fit in them just fine, but the best thing is that when your soap bar gets low you just put another soap in without chucking out the old bit - no more wasted soap!!

And you can just hand or machine wash these when you feel the need.

Only $5.95 each (not including soap) and keep your eyes out for lots more colors in the range.

Go HERE to see the Soap Savers.

Winter Baking

Here is a really yummy recipe that I grew up with, it is an old family recipe that has been passed down through the generations! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Station Brownie Loaf

In a saucepan place:

500g sultanas
2 c water
2 c sugar
2 T butter

Bring to boil and simmer 5 minutes. Cool mixture, then add:

750g sifted flour
1 heaped t baking soda
pinch salt
½ t ground cloves
1 t spice

Divide into 2 lined loaf tins (or use the silicone type ones), bake in moderate oven (180) for about 1 hour.

Serve warm or cold slices with butter. YUM! Perfect for a cold winter's day afternoon tea.

I'd like to talk about Stress!

STRESS. Something all of us are so used to being in our lives these days, especially Mums who juggle children, partners, households, and work (some seemingly effortlessly).

But what is it all about? And what can we do about it?

Stress is the result of some sort of strain to our physiological (physical) or psychological (mind) abilities. It is one of the most common problems of Western Society, and costs Australia millions in lost productivity. Stress affects everyone at some point in his or her life. Stress is caused by either internal or external conflict or pressure and affects one or more of our physical, emotional and mental selves. It is the “response” of a stimulus and response association and can manifest itself as a long-term ever-increasing cycle.

Certainly what this can mean is that a stimulus that would not normally affect a person can cause a strong response if that person is already stressed. Many nervous breakdowns and even crimes occur after a period of intense stress.

Stress is broken down into two groups – acute and chronic stress (or a combination of the two). Acute stress is a brief, once off occurrence (having a car accident or, how about this one for all those mums, your child throwing a major tantrum in the shopping centre!). Chronic Stress is when there is recurrent or long-term stressors that may even be in place for many years (a child suffering child abuse or someone in an abusive relationship).

Stressors can be either external (the conflict between an outside stimulus and the desire for need expression) or internal (the cause of stress comes from within).

What happens to a person in a high-pressure job who is pressured into going on at all costs? I don’t know about you, but when in a position like that I feel STRESSED, I feel like I am not coping well and I am suffering INTERNAL stress about what to do.

What about seeing someone close to us suffering from being in a car accident? Or seeing our child sick and in pain? EXTERNAL stress is the conflict between this outside stimulus and the desire for need expression.

Stress will affect our physical, emotional and/or physical selves. Some possible PHYSICAL effects are muscle tension, tiredness, sleep disturbance, low immunity to illness, skin irritations, drug dependency, and health risks such as increased susceptibility to migraines, hypertension, ulcers, etc. Some EMOTIONAL effects could be anxiety, apathy, irritability, and mood disturbances. Some MENTAL effects are poor concentration, negative thinking, memory problems, attention difficulties, and poor judgement.

All in all BAD news, right? Well no! Not all stress is bad for, in fact we need some tension for performance and the right amount of stress can be beneficial!

The key is to recognise our own levels of beneficial stress and act accordingly. Stress can be managed through physical mental, emotional, behavioural, or spiritual techniques. Get professional help if you think you need it, and always find that excuse for a beauty treatment or a nice long hot soaky bath!

Happy Mothers Day!

Happy Mothers Day to all Mums and Mums-to-be! Hope you have a wonderful day!

I was surprised by the most gorgeous gifts my boys brought home from kindy that they had made me... to be honest I was actually rather impressed! Mr 3 had painted a lovely wooden lady which I am now using as my bookmark. Mr 2 had threaded a very stylish bead bracelet which actually fits my wrist perfectly!

Along with the lovely collage cards too (which have gone into my special box).

I was also able to go to my son's kindy, and spend the morning on friday with the junior kindy room (Mr 2) doing activities and having morning tea. And do you know, I was the only Mum who wore her new bracelet! I was quite surprised actually, but anyway I hope my Son thought that was pretty neat (I think by the look on his face he did!).

And to finish off I found this quote this week from the lovely blog Australian Mothers Online:

"A mother is someone who dreams great dreams for you, but then she lets you chase the dreams you have for yourself and loves you just the same." ~Author unknown

Vital Earth Products are Heaven!

I have had the pleasure of having a range of products from VITAL EARTH TRADITIONS to try the last few days. In particular the body scrubs, body creams and Bitch Balance Butter (more about that one later!).

These are the most beautiful products! I can't believe how gorgeous they are!

I will start with the body scrubs - when I first opened the Lavender and Peppermint Scrub, I nearly passed out the smell was so gorgeous. After a lovely scrub in the shower I got out surrounded by the most beautiful smell, and feeling so soft it was heavenly. I was then able to lather myself in a very rich (but not greasy) lotion called Vanilla Bean. Normally I'm not too fussed on Vanilla Bean products, as you can tell the smell is synthetic. However, I cook at lot with real Vanilla Bean (you scrape the seeds out of the pod then if you hadn't heard this trick you place the scraped pod in your sugar jar.... mmmm vanilla scented sugar!!), and I could tell the cream is infused with REAL vanilla. So the smell is not too sweet and just beautiful! I spent the day floating around smelling divine with baby soft skin.

Now onto the Bitch Balance Butter. Bitch Balance Butter is a whipped body butter with a soothing Rose Geranium scent for those female moments. You rub it on your tummy and feet! I used it before a meeting the other day and for some reason I felt confident and happy all day, I am already a big fan of this one!

There is also a huge amount of information on Kelly's website and blog on aromatherapy, herbs, etc etc. It really is a most impressive resource of information.

At the moment you can only purchase Vital Earth Traditions products through their website if you live in the USA, however Kelly can take enquiries and orders via email/telephone if you live in Australia or other parts of the world.

Pop over to the Vital Earth Traditions website and have a browse around, I'm sure you will be as impressed as I am!
