MooBear Designs Review

I have been very lucky to have Stephanie from MooBear Designs review one of my products. This week she wrote about one of my crochet prem bunny rugs/baby comforters, you can read the full post HERE. But read on below for her lovely comments!

Monique sent me one of her gorgeous prem bunny rug/comforter to review. It couldn't have come at a better time. I used it for Bubble while she was sick and slept with it so it had my Mummy smell and she loved snuggling it. I am a sucker for crochet at the moment and the detail on the edging is just so divine. The white flannel is soft to touch as is the crocheted edging. The changing shade of brown is very striking and would suit a boy or a girl.

There are 3 available in her store with Pink, Blue and Rainbow Edging. Also check out my favorite Zebra print gift pack...

This really would make a wonderful gift for an early baby. As well as a soft snuggle option for any age baby.

Bear has also discovered a few other uses including but not limited to:

Baby Super Hero Cape
Peek a Boo Aid
Molly Dolly's Blanket

A Fantastic Review!!

The lovely Michelle of The House of Vintner has done the most lovely write-up on some of my products. I just had to post here all the lovely things she has had to say about Your Cheeky Monkey!

The House of Vintner has pleasure in releasing a review of 5 marvellous products available from Your Cheeky Monkey - one of my favourite online stores that I wholeheartedly support and endorse! It was through Monique that I found the unique business website connecting mums, called Connect2Mums!

Your Cheeky Monkey is an online store that caters to the whole family with a very special emphasis on hand-made, organic and fair-trade. Monique, the owner-operator of Your Cheeky Monkey, based on the Gold Coast, produces quality items at great prices. There are many products in Monique’s store worthy of note, however, for the purpose of this review I have just 5 to share with you this time.

I recently purchased some beautiful items from Your Cheeky Monkey which arrived at my door within a very short space of time. Well-packaged and complete with special goody bag via the Connect2Mums network, I was thrilled to these quality products:-

1. Covered Notebook
2. Fregie Sack
3. TagNCuddle
4. Tote Bag
5. Hand-made card

Monique’s hand-made covered notebooks are of a high-standard, using beautiful fabric that is, in her words ‘top quality upholstery cut-offs and samples sourced to avoid land-fill.’ This is a wonderful idea, because it is reducing waste and serving a purpose as a beautiful keep-sake gift for someone who likes to keep a journal, or their work or school notes in a safe place that is a spectacular talking point! Her hand-made cards are also a really special addition to any gift. Monique puts as much thought and effort into her hand-made cards as she does with all of her products.

The Fregie sack bag is a new idea to me, but I’ve discovered it is really innovative and novel and definitely worth checking out! This information was derived from Monique’s info page about them:-

The Fregie Sack is a unique bag that fills a gap in the fruit and vegetable sector as an alternative to using plastic bags. The bags are made from nylon netting in a range of colours, ensuring durability, and are finished with a drawstring to keep those small pieces contained and end your days of fishing around at the bottom of your green bag.

Now that I have mine, I can see what all the hype is about! They are sturdy and fabulous for many uses. I am using mine for those bits and pieces of makeup I always take out with me that disappear to the bottom of my handbag! I really believe the Fregie sacks are going to take off and are worth your time and attention if you are looking for something a bit different to service many uses! Monique lists a valuable range of uses for them on her site . Please take a moment to read more here.

I am also well and truly sorted now having purchased a beautiful soft Tote Bag from Monique’s gorgeous range of recycled jeans tote bags. I am thrilled with mine. Made from really soft and durable fabric, with a sturdy tie, this bag is a ‘take anywhere, functional item that is not only useful but a pretty cute fashion statement too!’ I love the fabrics that have been used! Hand-made and really fabulous, I am loving mine and I will be using it to go lots of places! I can throw in my fregie sack of makeup, and my notebook and I am good to go!
More importantly, our youngest is ‘good to go’ as well! As the recipient of one of Monique’s beautiful TagNCuddle ‘taggie’ blankies, I am certain this one is going to be a favourite in our home for a long time to come. Initially I wanted to purchase it for our next baby, but I know that our 2 year old will enjoy having it in his cot at bedtime, and it suits the jungle theme of his room. As you can see by the photos he is already a big fan of TagnCuddle! The one I have purchased has the really cute ‘Your Cheeky Monkey’ logo on it. Monique had this fabric custom-made and it is one of my favourite prints in her store; however, because she has so many really lovely fabrics, it does make choosing very difficult.

Why not contact Monique to purchase a very special gift pack for yourself, or a mum-to-be, go wild on the fregie sacks, pick a fabulous tote, see her really sweet fingerpuppets, cuski comforters for baby, the skincare line she carries and much more... Can’t decide? Why not ask Monique about a gift voucher?

Other lines by Monique include but are not limited to:-
*Burp cloths
*Handmade soft toys
* Appliqu├ęd items
*Crochet wrap sets
And much much more...

Connect 2 Mums Networking Event

Here are some photos from our FANTASTIC Connect 2 Mums networking morning tea held on the Gold Coast on Friday morning.

Here is Cassy (Kindy Kampers), Paula (Connect 2 Mums), Michelle (House of Vintner and author of "Falling").

This photo is Leigh, Kim and baby Tia, and Paula.

Group photo and all of our cards, brochures and some of the product displays held - it was fabulous to see all the top quality products from Business Members of Connect 2 Mums.

Another group shot of some of the ladies.

Finally, this is a picture of one of the prizes I managed to snag myself (ok I stole it because I really wanted to try one!!.... only joking I really did get permission from Amanda first!).

This is a "Babylicious" soap from the new online store Bodelicious, which offers "an affordable, environmentally friendly, natural range of multi-purpose baby products for busy mums today who are always on the go." Even though this soap is marketed as a baby product, my whole family including my husband has been enjoying using it. It is a lovely creamy soap of gentle oats and calendula, and just gorgeous to use. They have a whole range of other Mum and Baby products so pop over and have a little look! (Great prices too!).

Oohhhh I am a very happy girl this week after winning a couple of lovely prizes for my boys!

First is this fabulous "Cotton On" top and drink bottle from Op Tots. Just perfect for my younger son!!

If you have not heard of the Op Tots shopping experience, I can from personal experience highly recommend it. At Op Tots you will find a fantastic assortment of Recycled Kids Clothes all with a thrifty, not hefty, price tag. And the post is super quick too!

I also won this gorgeous pack of Aromababy Skincare products in a lovely blue pack with a blue face-cloth from Mum Space. If you follow my website and blog you will know I am a true believer in natural and organic products for babies and children, it goes such a long way to preventing skin problems and keeps your children's skin beautiful. Even though my boys are toddlers now I still use organic baby skincare for them.

Mum Space is one of my favorite blogs to follow and visit, there is always some interesting posts to read and great competitions to enter too!

Photos to Share

Here is a couple of photos I wanted to share.. First is the gorgeous bunch of chocolate flowers that just arrived on my doorstep from Better Than Flowers, a most amazing prize for being awarded the Connect 2 Mums "Community Mum Award"!! As you can see my 2 sons are very keen to sample some of the chocolates! Better Than Flowers also donates $5 from every bunch to Muscular Dystrophy Australia.

Secondly this beautiful photo was just forwarded to me ~ what a super cute bub with one of my TagNCuddles. The 2 giveaways that ended last night went to:

Jo from The Toy Bug was drawn as the random winner of the Cat Softie. drew post number 4 as the winner.

Jo said "I'm already following you and would love to win this so adorable soft cat not just because it is unique and utterly cute but that you put everything into what you make as you just LOVE what you do!!" - what a lovely comment!

And I chose for the comforter giveaway/reviewer Steph from MooBear Designs.

Steph said "Awww Monique... I would happily do a review for you. I have Bubble who is 9mths and I also have 5 friends due next month. (OMG I am so behind on their baby gifts it's crazy) I am always passing on WAHM's info to create more business for us and show the extended community that sometimes their money can be put to a greater use rather than into the mass produced products on the market!! Either way I love what you are doing... I am going to blog about you anyway...". But the reasons I chose Steph is that not only is she a super crafty person, she is a savvy Business Mum and a lovely person to boot. I am trusting in Steph to do a great review (but am hoping she is not too hard on me!!).

On the other hand I have been the lucky recipient last week of a couple of prizes myself. First is the great CD by Peter Healy from The Calm Space - You can read more about this artist too at his website

And how cute is this tiny matchbook notebook? I won this from the lovely Kathleen at Heavenly Handmades - thank you!

And as a final note, The Tall Poppy is giving away printers at the moment. YES that's right, printers!! Keep your eyes out for this weeks post with details on how you can win!

Hi everyone, I have just finished a couple of my crochet blankies, which can either be used as a prem bunny rug OR a comforter/blankie/lovie for a baby.

When I went to photograph this one, I noticed a couple of little marks on the fabric. I wouldn't be happy selling a product that was not in top condition, so I was wondering what am I going to do with it?

My solution is that I would like to give it away to one of my blog readers who has a baby, but the condition is that you write a review for me and blog about it, plus supply a good quality photo of the product in use!!

These measure about 50cm square, and are completely hand crocheted by myself. This one is a thick white flannelette, with a brown and white thread edging.

If you have a baby and are interested, please post a comment here (along with age of your bub and why you would like to do this). This Giveaway ends on Sunday 19th July 2009. Review must be written and blogged about by the 31st July 2009 please.

My other giveaway also ends on Sunday night, if you haven't entered already you can do so HERE.

Some Newsletter Tips

For those of you who write newsletters, I have just seen some great tips at the Business Mums Network Blog. Melissa says what NOT to do is:

  1. From address - have the from address of your newsletter a newsletter from your domain and NOT a hotmail address. With the number of emails I receive, there is a high chance your newsletter will end up in spam and not get read.
  2. Free newsletter accounts - if you must use free mailing list software, make sure the first thing people see when they get the newsletter is not an ad for someone else! I have a little alert that pops up with the first line of the email that arrives, and if I see an ad for someone I don’t know, the email is likely to end up deleted or in spam - either way, it doesn’t get read.
  3. No content - please, make your newsletters interesting with content. This could be anything from a free reprint article to the story behind a product to announcements of new products. If there is no content in your newsletter, people are likely to unsubscribe.
  4. Whole newsletter an image - this is something that irritates me because more often than not, the text appears blurry. A friend was telling me that her email program is set to block images in emails, so she can’t even read them! Sure, these newsletters look pretty, but they are very hard to read.
  5. Just adding me - OK, this is not only really annoying, but is also against the Australian Spam laws - I hate it when people just add me to their email lists! And how do I know? Usually they add the email that I send them an email (either they’ve subscribed to my list or I’ve replied to an enquiry) or they’ve got the address off my site. This is not the email I usually use to join email lists.

Yummy Gourmet Rice On A Budget

This recipe is for use in a Rice Cooker - if you don't have one of these and you have a family, I highly recommend getting one. It is so easy to do a big batch of rice without having to think twice about it.

This yummy rice goes absolutely fantastically with my Slow Cooker Casserole recipe (you can find this recipe HERE), and is a low cost way to have a rice side that even young children gobble down!

Dissolve 2 chicken stock cubes with boiling water in a 1L jug then make up to 800ml with cold water.

Place the stock in your slow cooker along with:
600g uncooked rice (I love "Koala Brand")
1 large chopped onion
50 - 100 g butter (depending on your taste and how much you are watching your waistline)
pinch salt

Shut the lid and press "Cook Rice"
Hey Presto!! You have a delicious Rice Dish ready to serve! ~ This recipe makes quite a large amount, enough for a big family or to freeze half for another meal.

My Crochet Baby Wraps

Well, after some convincing and prodding from a couple of friends now, I have listed my baby crochet wraps at Your Cheeky Monkey. I have listed them as sets with a burping cloth for $69.95. Each one is a unique item.

I just LOVE making these blankets / wraps. They make the most divine gift for a new baby or a baby shower, in fact I always give these as gifts when a friend has a baby. And like the ones I made for my sons, they are always still in use at toddler and pre-school age!

They are all completely hand stitched, each one takes me many hours to complete so I always know each one is infused with lots of love from me :-)

I also include these flannelettes with the crochet edge in my Luxury Baby Gift Packs.

So if you are looking for a special gift for a baby, or just something to be treasured by your own Bub, take a look at the ones I have on offer. As always if you have any special requests of colours or fabrics feel free to contact me - however I do need a couple of weeks from order time to delivery for these for custom orders.

I am a very lucky girl!

Well a while ago I received an email that almost made my heart stop! I entered and won a major giveaway on the beautiful blog Lilly's Life. I have to admit I am one of those people that occasionally win fairly small prizes, but never such a big one as this - I just am not really that lucky!

So, down to business. The prize consisted of 5 prizes from individual stores, mostly etsy traders (if you haven't heard of etsy go away now!! It is VERY addictive!!).

First up is the bird wall decal from Decorette - my dining room wall is now looking very mod indeed! Pictured is just a few of the many birds included in the pack.

Next we have some girls handmade hair clips from Vanilla Pixie. These are just gorgeous and they will be going to my niece as a special little gift! If you have a little girl or need to buy a gift for a little girl have a look at this etsy store - there are some VERY cute products!!

In the prize pack there was a gorgeous Lemon Vanilla Scrub and Soap from Inner Earth. I am now a big fan of Inner Earth Soaps, there are even some wonderful soaps just for Men. You can also visit Erin at her blog HERE.

Next mention is the cute matching mirror and scrabble tile pendant from The Pendant Factory. In fact I love the pendant so much I bought a very cute owl one for my step-daughters 11th birthday! They are very reasonable and make a pretty cool gift.

Finally, the most amazing for last. In the picture above you will see a beautiful handmade arm cuff - this is made by Simone from Coralia, and it is just amazing. Simone is so talented and the cuff is too gorgeous to be able to describe here - if you are looking for a one of a kind jewellery piece I highly recommend having a look at the pieces at Coralia!

So a huge thank you to Lilly and all the contributors, I can't say enough how gorgeous all your products are and I am having a wonderful time using everything. THANK YOU!

OOOoohhhh just saw on Handmade Kids ~ "My Little Monster" is featured today on the Fabulous Friday Finds Feature. How exciting!!

Supporting Australian Businesses and Services

Jodi over at Ace Virtual Assistant is running a promotion of Twitter Members who do the right thing and support other Australian Businesses. Read on for more info:

There has been quite a bit of discussion recently regarding Australian owned and based businesses promoting offshore outsourcing yet wanting local Australian Business to support them. Quite hypocritical.

Everyone is entitled to their own choices in business, but I truly believe that we really need to support each other and if you are wanting work and promoting your business and services to fellow Australian's you should actively support them in turn. We need to walk the talk.

To do my bit and promote Australian businesses and services I am doing a promotion of Twitter members who support using other Australian Businesses and services.

Already I have a list of 20 businesses and my aim is to get at least 50. I am running the promotion for another week and this time next week I will post the full list right here with links to their websites so you too can support them.

If you would like to be a part of this promotion please send me an email at jodi@ace with your business name, twitter name and website.

Thank you Kathleen!

A huge thank you to Kathleen of Heavenly Handmades - I won one of the Fruit Fix Boxes from Uncle Toby's that she ran a blog comp for a couple of weeks ago. Well, these got a big seal of approval from my boys and I will DEFINITELY be keeping my eyes out for these in the supermarket!

You can visit Kathleen at her blog Heavenly Handmades, or you can visit her beautiful website Felt Food Creations.
